Mercury 65hp 650 year

I just recently purchaces a 17 foot boat and it has this motor on it, I need to get a manuel to start chasing down my powerloss problems and I need to know what year it is....the serial number is 1758733.....the boat is a 74.

where do i find the model number....the only number i found on the whole motor was the serial number, is it hidden??? I'm new at this.

should be on the the top of the motor look for a round silver freez plug or on your mount braket

I'll look tonight what i get home....the only number i saw anywhere on it was 65hp.....and then it says 650....and then i found the tag with the serial number....on the mounting bracket. and it is a four cylander....thanks

Mercuries are identified by their serial number.<br /><br />Jack, I make that out to be a 1964 65hp outboard. Classic!<br /><br />HP: 650 (65.0) <br />Serial Numbers: 1606282 - 1765043 <br />Year: 1964 4 cyl<br /><br />(EDIT - Ooops - fixed now)

the serial number deffinatly starts out 17......that that means it is a 64 correct? Been haveing some problems and just wanted to be sure of the year so i know what manuel to buy.
