i have a 1965 mercury 65hp in mint condition. The boat its on currently has a pulley steering system with old cloths line looking cable. I dont like the setup becuse the cables are in the way and sumtimes come off the pulleys. Is there a internal cable system i can convert it too?? Ive seen them on motors a lil newer than mine and was jus curious if it can be done??
thanks

It can be done, the only question is what stuff do you need?

Look at the motor's tilt tube. Is it threaded on both ends and hollow? If so, it is likely a standard boat steering cable (Rack and pinion or rotary) will fit without a problem. If not, you will need to buy a kit to adapt the standard steering cable to a splashwell mounting. Get on the Teleflex web site and the info should be posted, since they make all the components. It will also tell you how rto measure for correct cable length.
