mercury 7.5????

[a brickhead]

I got a used 7.5 for a small f/w fishing boat. It's a bit used, but was told it should be in good condition (garage kept, ran well a few years ago, etc) What should I do before trying to fire it up??? I gather putting new spark plugs in, changing the oil in the lower unit and checks for water/metal:%....but what else would be a good idea??? Thanks for any input.

Welcome to iboats.

Any used outboard I get automatically gets sparkplugs, gearlube, and a water pump rebuild. A fuel pump rebuild would also be a good idea on anything more than 10 years old.

might want to clean the carbs and decarbon with seafoam
