Hi guy's this is my first thread so please bear with me. I recently bought a Merc 700 used from craiglist. Motor runs great. I can't figure out what year it is. I found a serial#6461903. I'd like to buy a book for the motor as well. I'm also trying to hook up a tach and figure out proper pitch size. Thanks in advance-MIKE

According to this:

That serial no. would make it a 1983.

In this wiring diagram:

The gray wire coming off one of the yellow/red wire posts on the rectifier is where you'll get your tach signal.

Someone with more prop expertise will have to help with the prop questions. I'm sure you'll need to list boat type/size/weight/etc. details to help zero in on that.

Cheap SELOC manual from the local auto parts or marine store would be an OK start as far as manuals go.
