I've seen lots of postings for waterpumps but not exactly what i'm looking for. I have a 2001 Tracker (Mercury) 75 2 stroke (just purchased). I got the boat home and went to start it (warm enough day) and after it started I noticed there was no stream from the tell tail. I was told by a dealer that the motor must get to a certain temp before it starts pumping. I want to verify this because i'm afraid to run the motor again without knowing for sure. If I have to do a waterpump repair, I can live with that. Thanks.

welcome aboard,
may take a small amount of time to pee, but it
most certainly will in 30secs to 1 min.
water always circulates regardless of temp.
if water is coming in, it must exit...

Re: mercury 75 waterpump

mellowyellow - that's what i thought. the water only kept spewing out around the muffs. as i said, i just bought the boat and when i trimmed down the motor, a small amount of water ran out of the hub (before i started it). perhaps a piece of ice blocking the tube was and still is in there. the boat was sitting outside in central iowa. perhaps when the weather warms, a preventative impeller change and system clean out will be in order. would you recommend a thermostat change as well? Also, what the heck is a "poppet" and does my engine have one?

if the motor was in the full/down position, there
should be no water/ice ever...
