Just got my Mercury 80 running and set the video up for the grand moment..

Can the experts maybe have a look at the video and let me know if the muffler was in the right place ?

And as you will see i shut it down as i wasnt seeing water out the pee hole..

Comments needed please , did i do right shutting it down or does it have a thermostat and i should have waitted maybe ??

What makes you say that ?

You posted the same question in another forum (http://forums.iboats.com/showthread.php?t=361429) and got lots of response to the same question. Did you forget where you posted? Its a waste of time to reply to the same question in different places.

Yes i did post elsewhere but the subject of this only came at the end ,hence i figured it needs to be posted properly as its good forum etiquette ;)

Wouldn't hurt to run "salt-away" thru there. Don't be afraid to touch the cylinders to feel for heat. Looks like you're running it in gear, carefull!

That is gonna be my next question actually ,, the engine is in neutral and prop spins by hand .. so why when the thing starts does the blade spin ??

I just watched again more carefully. I see you spun the wheel freely. Hope it's just vibration.Touch it with a little stick while it's running (in neutrel) to make sure. I'm no expert or wrencher, don't know engines but I do know boats.

I see where you have 2 threads ,big deal. Water comes out that hole all the time. Got nothin to do with the thermostat. The prop looks like it's just freewheeling, in reverse at that!

Maybe it wont do it in water or i will be having some right fun trying to keep the boat still

Water never came out that hole yesterday if you saw yesterdays video :(

Only today did it spring into pee mode .

I assumed it was as the thermostat opened maybe as you can see a definate sudden increase in peeing :)

No, It is not a thermostat related thing. The water must always comes out the (I hate this word) pee hole. The"brown crud" was probably your problem, thus, "salt -away".Imagine that brown crud all through your engine.Even if it never had salt water hours, "salt-away"which is a strong detergent, can clean all sorts of crud outta' there.Salt away uses a gizmo that attaches between the hose and the "muffs" (as in ear muffs, not muffler, your motor has no muffler),similar to a lawn feeding THINGY. Ha !I said thingy. To back up a sec, it's possible for the engine to overheat, while peeing, and ... the engine can cool itself with a blocked pee hole. Put your fingers on the head, next to the sparkys when you first go out (under load),feel for even heat, carefully. Tap to you later.
