Anyone have any problems with the newer style (white floats) in the new carb kits. I bought two kits to do both carbs and it just seems like they don't float as good and shut the gas off like the older bigger floats. This was on a 1983 mercury 80hp inline motor.

They work just as well if not better, I've installed several, you need to readjust the float levers as per the diagram and make sure the spring distance on the top of the float is the exact height, did you do that?

Unless these are different that what I am thinking, are they the black floats with the white center?

No they are all white plastic. My carbs are wm-2 carbs something like that...

Ah newer style, there should be a spot to adjust, tweak them a bit and it will more that likely work.

Getting back to the measurement, 11/16" or 17.46mm from the base of the carb to the bottom edge of the float, carb flipped upside down. If you just installed the floats without setting them that may be the issue.

I had them both set 11/16 as called for and the carbs still running rich and after shutting off motor the bottom carb would pool gas and it would run out front of carb.

Running rich? At idle or on the water? The rich running can be cured by idle needle adjustment, you could try bending the float tab again a MM or so to try and eliminate the leak.

Heck my inline 6 leaks as soon as I tilt it and it`s got all rebuilt carbs, I just think that it`s by design however it`s a different type carb.
