Mercury 9.9 Bigfoot With Quick Silver Control Wires

I may be a newbie at boating but I'm not completely stupid. I'm getting ready to mount my 9.9 to my pontoon and I was checking to see how to hook up the controls. I see where the throttle and gears connect but I cannot figure out how the get the electrical inside the cowl. I see the female plug inside there, but I do not see an opening to run the wires through. Where am I missing it?
