Hey you seasoned mechanics. My question is this. It seems easy enough to drop the lower unit on my Merc to change the impeller. Is there some shift linkage that I will have to unhook as well to get the lower unit off??? I have a 1995, 9.9 tiller outboard. Thanks, Jake

Yes there is. Did 1995 9.9 Mariner last summer. You also have to remove the reverse lock hook. Mark the shaft so you can get back on the correct place.

Nice posting of the instructions! In the very last paragraph it talks about the measurement for the length of the shift rod, do you have that in inches or whatever?

This is very important because that shift rod can easily be screwed in-and-out of the lower unit and if not put back together at the proper length, majorly messes up the shift action!

Thanks.............ed

If you disconnect it at the top and don't adjust the length there is nothing to worry about.
It also tells you to remove the prop. I never did that. Lower unit and impeller can be changed with no problem while the prop is still installed.
