I am running an aluminum centre console boat with the above motor, and although it is working within the recommended RPM range and performing well, I would like to try spinning this motor up a little closer to 5500 and it looks like I might have a chance to trade what I have and get one that works slightly better.

I have tried a stainless Mercury Laser 2 22 pitch and it gives about 41mph and 5100RPMs, handles great.

Also tried an aluminum Turning Point Legacy 19" x 13 1/4" and it gives about 39mph and 5200RPMS, also handles great.

So, both of these props are working ok for me but it wouldn't be a bad thing to have another one that works nearer the top of the RPM range for this motor, around 5500. I am using the boat for fishing/cruising/skiing. It looks like I may have a chance to trade one of my older 50HP props for a Michigan Wheel Rapture 13 1/4" by 19 pitch stainless prop.

Can any of you prop experts give an idea of whether the Rapture 19" will give me more RPMs and similar or better performance than the other 2 I've tried?

thanks

Shane

Re: Mercury 90 2-cycle props

ok, going to try and re-phrase this.

I went from a 22-pitch Laser 2 stainless to a 19-pitch TP Legacy aluminum, and my RPMs didn't really increase. Speed is slightly slower. I was surprised by this. I've read here before that the Hustler/Legacy props don't behave like other props. This one performs acceptably, but I suspect if I can find the right stainless prop I can get the right RPMs and better performance all around.

If I am getting 5200RPMs out of the 19 pitch TP Legacy, does anybody have any recommendations for what I should be looking for in a stainless? I thought I might try trading what I have for a 19 pitch stainless MW Rapture, but I've heard mixed reviews on this one...

When you change brands and material you add too many variables and it becomes unpredictable.
If you like the laser why not stick with it.A 2" pitch change will get you "about"
400 rpm.
