Hi
My oil injected 2 stroke Mercury 90 ELPTO always slow drip leaks oil when tilted up fully up, if the oil injection tank is filled above a certain level (see photo).
I cant physically see any drip however can see the puddle in the boats transom area.
When getting it serviced the mechanics say its a common problem with this model and they have replaced the oil fill cap and seal multiple times, which has not worked.

Just wondering if anyone knows away to stop the leak as only filling it to a third means I need to top it up quite regularly.
The only solution I could think of is maybe putting a hose clamp around the the out side of the lid to try squeeze a better seal.

Any advice appreciated
Thanks
Josh

I read something about a normal leak from the carbs after running.
But there is also oil on the foam inside the cowl which is why I am pretty sure its coming from the oil fill seal.

I had the same problem with a 2002 model of that engine. New seal didn't stop it, Checked for a burr or misfit and everything looked good. As you found out, I tilted the engine all the way up and filled the oil till just before some came out the neck. Put the engine back down and took a magic marker and marked a line on the tank....abut ⅔ full. That's where I topped it off and no more oil puddles in the cowling.

I had a similar problem on a 97/98 Merc 90. Was coming from the oil injection line after pump...but also I think back through carbs too
