When I bought my 1987 bass boat with 90 HP Merc the tach didn't work, so I decided to find out why.
There was no continuity in the gray wire and I had no 12vdc on the purple wire to the tach. I traced the purple "Hot" wire and found someone had cut the auxiliary power cable from the throttle unit to the dash, it was just laying in the tunnel, this is a heavy cable with 6 or 7 wires and has a plug on it that pugged into the dash wires. All that is left of this cable is about 2', the rest is gone.
I was able to run auxiliary wires and get the tach working. They ran a jumper from the master switch to the gas gauge to get it to work. The high temp low oil buzzer also doesn't work, so i need to find if it is is this loom too. For the life of me I don't know why someone would perform an abortion like this.
There is a flat 4 wire loom coming out of the throttle unit in addition to the main cable to the engine and the throttle and shift cables.
The wires in the flat loom are green, blue, purple and brown, all with gray stripes. Back in the battery compartment someone has spliced into the wires but I haven't ran down where the wires go, and they also tie in to other wires that run back up to the dash.
My question before proceeding any further is where are the green, blue, purple and brown wires in this flat loom supposed to go. The Seloc manual is of no help.
Thanks for your help.
