I have a 25 hp mercury O.B. it has a connection on it that cn link up to your deep cell battier and charge it? My question is can I connect that dircetly to the battery or does it need to have some kind of voltage regulator connected to it. It seems that running the motor might put too much charge on the battery causing an issuse.
Thanks for any help with this.

Re: mercury battery connection

The output from many small outboards is unregulated; voltage regulation is accomplished by the load of the battery.

So if I get some kind of voltage regulator that would work?

What is the current out put on it Pete. Most small outboards are 6 amps or less at WOT. What sort of a problem are you having. And the ones I have used you connect it directly to the battery.

I moved this over to the Mercury forum. The charging system is a Merc item, not just general electrical. It would really help if you posted the year of your motor, and better yet the serial number.

Pete this is correct. I'm going out on a limb and assuming your motor is not electric start. If so then it would be rare to have the required rectifier installed and I think that's what your refering to. The output from the stator will be A/C voltage without the rectifier. You need DC to charge the battery so adding the rectifier will be required. CDI Part Nr. 154-6770 should be what you're looking for. I'm pretty sure that will work on 94's and up. I think you can order them through iBoats parts.

Yeah, weird huh, he responded to his own thread today though. Maybe he was waiting for his pension with a penchant. LOL... Dang, my fingers were all over the wrong keys on that one.
