Mercury Classic 50 stalling and hard starting

Hi all. I could really use some advice. I have an 88 classic 50 merc. It seems to run very good as it propels my 15' trihull at 29 MPH. My problem is it is hard to restart after going to my fav fishing hole when i try to restart an hour later i have to reprime ,use the fast idle lever and possibly a little choke. I also have noticed that just in gear while putting around waiting for my turn at the ramp it will stall. same starting issues. It's pretty easy to start cold though. Have replaced the switchbox,waterpump & fuel line fittings.i have also rebuilt the carbs and fuel pump and set the float level to be parrallel to the carb body. I am hesitant to do a link & Sync as it comes on plane pretty good and runs great. Any suggestions would be most welcome as i am running out of ideas. Thanks in advance.

Aluminum motors cool quickly, it is not unusual to need the fast idle and a touch of choke enrichment to restart after even 30 minutes fishing.

A link and synch per the OEM service manual as ALWAYS a good idea to ensure a proper running motor.

I am more concerned with your need to reprime before restarting, this may be an indication of leaking valve(s) in the primer bulb, fuel pump, and/or air leaking into the fuel system between the tank and fuel pump.

Careful attention must be paid to the fuel system to keep the fuel supply from ever going lean which will cause extensive piston/cyl damage.

Thanks for your help. I have replaced any fuel lines on the engine that looked deteriorated .The motor runs great with no issues at wot . I think i am going to replace the fuel line & primer bulb between the tank & engine.it seems to run stronger since the carb & fuel pump rebuild. Seems i remember a buddy that had an older merc that he had to choke it anytime it sat for a lil while so i think you are right bout typical starting procedure. I have looked at the link & sync procedure listed on this forum. can i do any of the test running in a barrel to give the proper back pressure?
