Mercury classic 50 what year and starter issues

does anyone know the year ser#08306094 and when i was sitting idle the starter started up with out turning the key and had to turn it off by unhooking the power from the battery and now the starter works sometimes and if it starts running it can get stuck on or wont sork at all??. Hope someone knows Thanks

Sounds like the solenoid is sticking. I'd start looking there first.
As for the year, might look on the outside of the starter many mercs have the year stamped there.
