I just bought a 98 Astro with a 98 mercury efi 150 v6. Ran great for a couple weeks and then all of the sudden the stator and regulator rectifier burnt up on me. I pulled the cover and found one of my spark plug wires was hanging and had been hanging for who knows how long. Boat would start and run long as it was Idled up but when put in neutral would die. I replaced the stator and regulator rectifier and wired them back the same way they were. Tried to run it yesterday and it would only start and run if idled up. I’m lost. Any help is greatly appreciated. Thank you!

Thank you both for you help. Reckon I will have to take it to the shop instead of trying to figure it out myself. Be better than changing stuff for no reason thanks again!

Why pay someone to do the test what you can do for free??? First thing ANY good shop will do is a compression and spark test. You can rent these tools for FREE at Autozone.
