Mercury Engine performance upgrade

I also posted this under Bennington category but as it is more of a Merc Engine question...I am posting it here also.

I have a 2005 Bennington 20' pontoon boat with 25 inch pontoons. It has a 2005 Merc 60 HP Bigfoot engine part number 60ELPTEFI
Typical cruising performance is fine. I can tube lighter people with only 1-2 onboard. I?d like to get a bit better performance to tube adults. I am interested in upgrading this to a Merc 90HP motor.

I?d like to know if people think I will see an increase in performance sufficient to make the move. I am getting quotes of about $4,600 with trade in, which doesn?t seem too bad.

Thanks
Kevin

Re: Mercury Engine performance upgrade

the 1st question is what is the boat rated for. will the transom engine mount handle the load. go with the bigest motor it is rated for, that way you have the power when needed. that's a heavy boat to get moving.

If the boat is rated for a 90 you would certainly notice an increase in towing performance -- and a significant and corresponding increase in the amount of fuel consumed.
