Mercury fuel line connection

I bought a new Lowe boat a couple of months ago and they offered an 03 Mercury 20 hp motor with it for a good price.Got it on the water a couple of times no issues except for the fact that when I first tried to connect the fuel line to my motor it was a little tough. Took it out last weekend hose connection went on no problem but I noticed it was leaking.Ordered a new fitting just arrived today,can't get the thing on. Am I doing something wrong?

They make many similar connectors, so I think you just ended up with the wrong one, I did the same thing myself!!!
