Anybody had any experience with these things yet? I want my 150XR2 powered 17' pad-v bottom boat to go as fast as possible w/o going to a low water pick-up. See pic attached.

Re: Mercury Fury

Someone may be along with a similar boat motor combination.
If you tell us what you have in detail; weight of boat, Prop brand ,size and material.
Describe the setup Jack plate? Is the antvent plate (just above the prop) even with the bottom of the boat?Present max rpm and speed?Max rated rpm of the motor?

The boat itself weighs about 900lbs. The prop I'm running now is a small-hub Mercury Laser II, 26P; it turns up about 6200 rpm at just a shade under 70 mph. Factory redline is 6000. It has a large (4 3/4") 2:1 gearcase. I have at present about 7" of set back, and right now I'm playing with engine heights. I've got it set so that the center of the propshaft is about 3" below the pad. If I can get this baby to crowd 75 with just engine height/prop changes, I'll be happy.

Re: Mercury Fury

At close to 70 mph may be a tough assignment but its fun to try.
The real prop pros should be along with some suggestions.Do you have a water pressure gauge? If you have a good prop shop they may be able to add
a little cup or pitch to your prop.Keep working with the height. At that speed it wouldn't take much to gain a little. You might go over to scream and fly.
As I understand it they are always trying for more.
If you have anything sticking in the water get it out.
Just a thought if you dry sail maybe remove the anodes.
Let us know how you make out.

Re: Mercury Fury

That's pretty good for a small hub prop with relatively small diameter. You're at the point where you could use a really good performance prop like a Turbo TXP. Especially the 4 blade TXP.
