So I have an early 1980s mercury gnat 4hp (forward, neutral), and I recently replaced the impeller. When I put everything back together, the motor did not shift out of forward. The shift shaft only moves up and down, and down is neutral and up is forward. Is there any way to fix this without taking the prop shaft out? And if I need to take it out, what should I look for to fix in there?
