Mercury HP 80 or 90 how do you tell?

I have recently purchased a Mariner (Mercury) outboard. The old owner was under the impression at one point that it was a 90 HP but some one told him it was an 80 HP. It is a 1983 model Serial #6468823. If any one can help me out I would appreciate it.

Someone correct me if I'm wrong, but, 1983 90 HP Mariner/Merc's were an inline 6 cyl., the 80 HP models were inline 4 cyl.'s
