Guys

I would like to replace the old Mercury ignition switch on my boat.

It has 10 wires as follows:

2 Black Wires

2 Black with a Yellow trace

2 Red

2 Purple (pink?)

1 Yellow with a Black trace

1 Yellow with a Red trace.

My questions are can you use a 6 wire switch that I seem to see for sale all over place?

Does anyone have a color breakout for my switch?

Thanks!

Re: Mercury Ignition Question

Not sure why you have 10 wires on the switch. Black is ground, black/yellow is ign killer, purple is ign accessory, red is +12VDC; yelow/black is choke, yellow/red is starter solenoid.

Re: Mercury Ignition Question

The switch is hardwired to the harness. Its OEM to 1988 standards. Thats a great diagram...any chance you could find mine as well?

Re: Mercury Ignition Question

I had multiple wires of the same color going to my ignition switch also. They were soldered together on the terminal. When I replaced the switch, I used crimp terminals and just crimped the wires together on the lug.
