mercury inline 6 no spark

i have a 68 mercury 125 HP inline 6 the coil has 2 wires one goes to ground and the other goes to the switch box the question i have, is the wire going to the switch box suppose to be grounded? when i hook a test light to a hot wire and touch it to the wire going to the switch box it lights up!
would apriciate any help!

It's the same as this, green is power and black is grd.

thanks, i have a CD with the wiring and also have a book with wiring diagrams for a lot of boat engines, but there is a discrepancy between the 2. one shows a brown wire in the main harness going to the switch box the other shows the same wire going to the rectifier? very confusing. i just bought a coil on ebay and it's the same as mine with it off the engine putting test leads on the 2 wires, i have full continuity on my meter.
