My 75 Hp Will Not Get Up To Speed Im Only Pushing About 15 Mph And Sounds Like I Should Be Going Like 30 +, Its A 15 Ft 2 Seater Bass Boat. It Seems As I Give It Some Trottle It Blogs And Barly Goes And Sounds Like It Wants To Die And Some Times It Does Die. I Have Replaced The Carbs And Impelar Also About A Week Ago. Im Trying To Tune It As Its Been Sitting For 2 Years The Guy Said When I Bought It.

Will A Tachometer Help Me Set The Right Rpm's Or What?

Is There A Special Tach That I Need To Buy?

Can It Be Out Of Time And How Do I Put It Back In Time?

Sounds like a fuel starvation issue, have you checked the bulb in the fuel line when it bogs down? A service manual would be a great help to you! When you replaced the carbs did you perform a link and sync?

If it is revving up and the boat barely moving it could have a spun prop. make a line with a marker across the hub and prop..then run it. Then check the line to see if it is shifted across the hub.

Re: Mercury Keeps Bloging!help Please!

I just recently experienced a similar sounding problem with a 2004 Mercury 60HP three cylinder motor. Before you begin tearing into stuff hoping to fix it, put it back in the water and after a warm-up period, throttle-up to the point where it is bogging and pump the fuel hose bulb a few times. If the motor catches and RPM's increase substantially, then your fuel supply is restricted somewhere between the tank and the carbs. If pumping the bulb does NOT help, then try choking/priming while underway. If this action causes a big RPM increase and the engine sounds pretty normal, then it is more than likely blockage of the high-speed jets in the carbs. Recommend you get some kind of manual before proceeding with any repairs. Plenty of experts, which I am NOT, on this forum who can help you. FYI, it will help immensely if you will identify the model number of your motor so people can look at their reference material. Good luck and keep us posted.
