mercury kill switch

I had a reply but have lost it should i cut the wire and ground both ends or just splice a ground in to it thanks

I never saw your thread. What motor, what switch and what are you trying to achieve?

I have a 74 merc. 85hp. I think you are the one who responded last time about wire color and grounding. Do I cut the wire and send both ends to ground when the switch is pulled or just splice a wire in to the entire wire and then to switch and ground .Thanks again

The wire on a "mercury filled kill switch" is capped off as if grounded it will ground out the distributor resulting in no spark. If your adding a remote kill tether you want to break and splice into the white wire as it supplys voltage to switchbox. Your switch should be normally closed with tether attached and open when removed. The salmon wire does nothing in a distributor engine as it never is pinned into internal harness, it only used on a ADI ignition system
