Mercury lower unit compatability???

Hi all,

I have a 1974 Merc 850 (85hp) 4cyl 2stroke. I live in the United Kingdom and parts for these girls are hard to come across. My lower unit it has thrown a bearing, knocks like an old roller coaster when turning the drive shaft. Spoke to a couple of outboard shops about getting it repaired as although i have the manual i dont have the tools to separate it... The labour rates are too high and its more cost affective to replace. What i need to know is what lower units will fit? I understand that i may have to play around with prop sizes to try get the power down right due to different gear ratios.

Any thoughts would be greatly appreciated!

Most any large 4 cyl or inline 6 will interchange with the ecpection of the gear ratio
