Mercury Marine WHAT IS IT? can only find serial#

I have this motor and don't know what it is. Is there any other numbers besides serial number? It is 0G002157 ..... I assume its about 20HP - 25HP late 80's or early 90's. Have no cover and can't find any other numbers. Its light gray in color. <br /><br />Thanks

Appears to me a 1994, 20HP, Mariner.

That's probibly right but how can I confirm this for sure? I want to part this out but make sure I post it as the correct year and all.

Is is definitely a 1994 Mariner (Gray in color)<br /><br />Serial Number: 0G002157 Model Number: 7025201CD<br /><br />The horsepower is more difficult to determine. Could be 20 or 25.<br /><br />You can find parts lists here:<br /><br />Mercury Parts Express

This is the only number I can find on the tag, should there be more some where? Without the cover is there any way to tell the HP?

If you have the carb off, you can check the main jet size. The 25 uses a larger .080 jet.<br /><br />Can you see any WMC numbers, or casting numbers on the carb body?<br /><br />25HP:<br />(.080) (WMC 31/32)<br /><br />20HP<br />(.046) (WMC 29/30) <br />(.044) (WMC 36/37) <br /><br />Not sure of any other way to determine which it is. Do you need to know for certain?

Well like I said I want to part it out and sell the pieces so best to know exactly what I have, I have the carb here let me poke at it and see what its got for jets.

The main jet, the one that holds the bowl on is .080. So safe to say I have a 1994, 25 HP ?<br />Where did you come up with the model number and what does it tell us?<br /><br />Model Number: 7025201CD

I missed that you mentioned parting it out. The model number (tells us nothing) can be found on the mercury website, based on the serial number provided (see link in my post above). That site also has exploded diagrams which points out the differences between the carbs. If that is an .080 jet you have a 1994 Mariner 25HP motor. <br />Hope that helps.
