Mercury (motorguide) xi3 control board

I know this is a stretch. It is Mercury albeit a MG trolling motor. Anyway, I'm looking to find someone experienced with replacing the control board. All mine does now is just peeps and runs thru a sequence of LEDs. I found some replacements, odd thing it seems they come attached to the bottom cover, wondering why.
The s/n is 9D392565 with gps pinpoint
and best I can tell the MG/mercury p/n is 8M0133400
Anyone with experience replacing these. I ok with doing the work just puzzled as to why they mount it already.
I did ck the voltage its 26V at the screws on the control board. fully charged batteries.

I did try them before as I think they are a sponsor but they dropped MG. A bit more googling yielded boats.net and they even have a merc (MG) lookup schematic parts diagram so I think I found the part. If I disconnect the gps it fails the same way and since there is no other electronics in the TM by process of deduction that must be the problem. A bit of a gamble since elec parts cannot be returned.
