Mercury OB shift linkage

Remote control is hard to shift, more so in reverse than forward. The problem seems to be with the motor shift linkage, as the cables and control lever move freely when cables are not connected.

Any ideas about what could be sticking, and how to free it up? I'd rather not tale the motor apart, if I can help it.

Gee what motor are we discussing?

Most Mercs have a shift slider. It could need some grease. .

When was the last time you replace the gear oil in the gearcase? Water in the gear oil, or low gearoil will make it hard to shift.

MERCURY-----You can shift from neutral to forward and back to neutral all day long.-----If you want to shift from neutral to reverse the motor must be running or on the trailer you have to turn the prop !!!
