Mercury Oil Injection, Keep it or not?

Hi,

I have 1992 Mercury 40 hp 4 cylinder classic model with oil injection. Im not sure if it is an autoblend or not. Would I be better off getting rid of the oil injection? Mixing gas and oil is no big deal for me as I only have a 6 gallon tank. Do you just drain the tank and unhook the hose coming from the oil pump to the "T" fitting on the fuel line or will that cause fuel leakage? Any advice on how to do this would be greatly appreciated.

The only oil pump failures I have seen were in V-6s. I've never seen one fail in anything else. It's not an AutoBlend.
