Greeting Boaters:
Can anyone tell me why the alarm goes off on my outboard motor every so often. It seems to happen when I'm in some chop. I took her out for the first time this season after it was summerized and it ran good, water flow was there, but when i was banking around a wide turn, the alarm went off and the engine drops out on me until the alarm clears...this is my first boat and I need to know if i need to be concerned...

Any comments would be appreciated.

Have you watched your water pressure gauge while this is happening? Maybe the prop is ventilating to the extent that there's no water available to be pulled through the engine. What does the alarm sound like? Cool username by the way. Is that a nod to Swingers? As in "You're so money and you don't even know it!"

Yes...it is a Swingers reference! Thanks.

I do keep my eye on the Water Pressure and it seems to be holding steady...I have been reading threads all over about others who have the same problem...I'm stumped

I suggest you have the mods move your post to the Merc repair section, as that is where the Merc tekkies hang out and this seems to be a motor issue.

I think your Opti has an ecu so it can be read to see why it is alarming. Like checking you car for "codes". Of course that will involve a dealer and $$$.

On my '97 merc 90 the alarm would sound in chop and on starting off if the injection oil was ever so slightly low, like below 1/2 a tank.

If they move your post I'm sure you'll get better answers from the merc section folks.
