Hello from Croatia!:)

I have Mercury Outboard 500 (blue stripes), 50HP S/N: 4078037 and I think that the year of manufacturing is `74.
I found on this page; http://boatpropellers.iboats.com/Me...andard&**********=406535340&*******=680740427 the list of propellers but I don?t know which one to buy?
On the old propeller there is no label so please help!
What is recommended RPM range for best performance?

The boat is 5m long, 2m wide ? open fisherman?.

Best regards,

Igor

P.S; Sorry for my bad english.

Re: Mercury Outboard 500

The best thing is to run the present setup and get the Maximum rpm and speed.
Usually prop size or number is on the barrel of the prop or sometimes under the prop nut.
Paint may be hiding it.
Open fisherman" Is it a bare boat? no live well, floor
or storage compartments. Does it have remote steering or a tiller?Aluminum or fiberglass. If someone has a similar setup they may be able to suggest a starting point. If all else fails a prop shop should be able to measure the prop.

I read somewhere that recommended RPM range for this motor is 4800-5500, is that true?

When this crisis passes I will buy yamaha 80ks or 100ks but till then I am stuck with this one...

Best regards

Re: Mercury Outboard 500

Your english is excellent.
Boy that is a beauty. As I think you realize a lot of boat for a 50.But propped right it will serve.4,800 to 5,500.is the rated rpm.I have the 1965 version of your motor. If you end up having to guess on the pitch go for a lower number.
If it ends up too low you can still run the motor to get to get the specs. If it over revs you can still use it be stayng within the rpm range. I would guess something in the 11 or 12" range for that application.Only a guess you may want to wait for others to respond. If you buy the prop through the dealer where you bought the boat they may let you try a number of prop to maske your selection. A prop shop may have some used props they would let you
try.

Tnx steelspike!

I`ve managed to find authorized mercury dealer who has this types of propellers and I ordered standard version. They also have a workshop where I can change the pitch of propeller later on.
The boat weights without the motor 400kg and it is rated between 35-75 HP.

Best regards

Great, sounds like your all set. Please feel free to ask any further questions
I know I'd like to see how you make out.Did they suggest what the
"standard" pitch might be?Did they say standard for that size/type boat?
Most people suggest horsepower at least 3/4 to 2/3 of the max rating
so your right in the ball park.

You will get more help in the Mercury/M<ariner section.
Whaqt year is your motor? Can you be more specific about your problem?
You should get a service manual You may find one at the library.
