I have seen this soo many times on E-bay and Boat Trader Online (And paper). People advertise that their Bayliner, Trophy, Maxum or whatever has a Mercury, or Mercury Marine, or Mercury Force motor on it. Are Force owners really that ashamed to admit that it is indeed a Force/Chrysler outboard? Please someone tell me why they do this.

My Merc.

Re: Mercury outboard or Force outboard

Dunno...most Force engines are good engines, they jus' don't have that little extra punch that the Mercs do...Force was originally Chrysler, then U.S. Marine Force then Mercury bought Force and added a bunch of updates to the line and even incorporated some stuff into the Mercury line. The engines are older but good technology. Mercury dropped the line because of the R&D and tooling cost to bring the engines upto the new federal emmission standards that were impossed on outboard manufactureres. Parts have been getting harder and harder to get since its been about 7 or more years since Mercury has dropped production...

On actual Force Mercury motors many parts are interchangeable with Mercury, so a reference to Mercury is justified perhaps more than one to Chrysler.

And the fact that it says "by mercury marine" right on the cowl might have something to do with it. They are fine motors, if you keep em decarbed and keep the r's below 5200 they will run forever. My friend the wrench says "mercury messed em up". I ran a mercury force 2 cylinder for several years and never had the first problem with it period. Most dependable motor I have ever owned.
