is there a community on the U.S. east coast that has a large number of Mercury outboards relative to Yamaha outboards??
Not trying to ignite the Yamaha merc debate but I would like to buy a Bayliner 16 or 18 with an outboard- I have been to my south east coast city's boat ramps and its almost 100% Yamaha especially in newer motors and in motors larger than 70 hp. I have also been to Caribbean islands and thats Yamaha. I look at the local dry stack and the ratio is 10 Yamaha to 1 Merc.
Is it like that everywhere?
I like the bayliner 180 OB boat but am afraid the risk the merc motor, plus low resale.
Whats causing this?
Thanks
I am between boats and am looking

Mercs are 5::1 or more over Yammies here in the Northeast(NJ area). Johnson is second. E-TEC next. Yamahas are few and far between.

IMHO, The 60* V6 motors made by OMC and Merc are superior to 90* V6 motors. Has Yammie got any of those? Yamaha did not make a 60* V motor some years ago.

Thanks.
Since I dont remember any Jersey lakes I assume you are talking salt water? right?

and are there 70HP and up or only small motors?

How about elsewhere in salt water - east or west coast?
