I am curious if anyone has ever rebuilt the top end of a Mercury model 1500, 1978, 150hp??? My neighbor has one that he had apparently fired up on the lawn without a fake lake--well rest of story is probably concievable. With no H2O pump to cool, the engine ran for only a short distance after launching. I pulled the plugs and found aluminum splattered on 2 of the six plugs, as far as the other four cylinders I think that the rings probably collapsed. Is it possible to pull this power head down and do a piston and ring job by myslef???? Do the pistons push out the top or does the whole crank and rod assembly pull out the crank side of the motor??

Any help would be appreciated

Preston
