I have a 1974 Mercury 650 (65HP) Powertrim Outboard (Sr#4048209) with what I think is the original power trim hydraulic pump. I changed the solinoid, which was acting up, and the new one is doing the same thing. The pump ran and was working, then the solinoid started clicking but not activating the pump. When replaced, it still does the same thing, but the wiring doesnt make any sense. Does anyone have a diagram?<br />I appreciate any and all assistance provided.

Koplinhagen, If you are land-testing the T/T unit, you can bypass the solenoid, to see if the motor operates smoothly. That way you can isolate the trouble to the motor or solenoid. That trim motor has an up wire(blue?), a down wire(green?) and a common (black) ground wire. Be sure the battery negative wire, the pump motor black wire and the solenoid ground wire are cleanly connected together, usually on the back of the bracket. Also check that the trim switch is supplying 12 volts to the solenoid, or it may not operate properly.

Also, the three pronged plug that runs to the dashboard switch has three wires. They are red for voltage to the switch, blue for voltage to the solenoid primary winding, and green, directly to the pump motor. There is a trim limit switch on the starboard side of the motor in the trim/tilt bracket. You can unplug it from the T/T harness and jumper across it if the switch is shot (usually are by this point). Alternatively, you can always use the top two buttons to raise the motor.

Thank you all for the input. I found that the problem was the main power lead inside the pump motor itself. A 10 minute repair with some solder and all is working again.
