I have a 1993 Skeeter 200DX Bass Boat with a 1993 200 XRI Mercury. I recently bought the boat where it was stored and not used most of the year,(only about 300 hrs total use!) All instruments are Teleflex and all work except the Tachometer and port fuel gauge. Sometimes the tach will seem to work sporadicly(?) at low RPMs, below 1500, and other times it will jump wildly over to 7-8 grand at higher RPMs. Still other times it will never move. I think the fuel gauge problem is a bad sending unit because the stbd side works great.

I have checked the connections at the back of the tach and all are good. I have tried to check all connections at the engine but may have missed 1 or 2. I didnt pull the tach all the way out to check the settings but I think this may be next, if nothing else I can make sure setting dial is not gummed up not getting good connection.

Anyway I need help and any suggestions will be greatly appreciated.

Also, do I need a water pressure gauge or a temp gauge or both? The motor has the stock lower unit but I am looking for one with a shallow water pickup and bullet nosecone. What is normal temp and pressure for this engine?

I am running a Turbo 2+2 13 3/4" x 25p 4 blade prop and it runs 69 MPH on the GPS fully loaded. I am looking for a little more speed and power( speed mostly). Also it is mounted on a Turbo 12" setback jackplate. I am also looking to put a set of Boyesen reeds in the engine. If anyone has any more suggestions as to where I can get a little more power without a lot of money changing hands at the local boat shop please let me know what I may try.

Next question, the automatic oil injection is still hooked up and is performing well on this engine as far as I can tell. Should I have the oil injection taxen off and manually mix the oil with the gas? I know that even though the engine is in very good condition, it is getting some age on it and I dont need any problems that could be avoided by something as simple as mixing the gas and oil in the tanks. I have heard that Mercury oil injection systems are sometimes prone to breakdowns.

Thanks in advance,
BK
