mercury prop question

i have a 1973 merc 402 40 hp and need a prop. the only number i could find is stamped on the back of the prop hub P14 (the 4 is not very legible, could be something else) P14 614 CUP . does this make sense to anyone? I cleaned up the prop really well and this is the only number. the prop is 13 spline and the best diameter i can measure is 101/4" but could be a little larger because edges were beat up. thanks

Re: mercury prop question

14" pitch seems reasonable if the boat is relatively light.
A prop shop can probably repair it for you and confirm the pitch.
10 1/4" diameter is reasonable. Diameter varies generally increasing as pitch goes down.
It is usually a secondary consideration if the prop is intended for your motor.

thanks! the boat is a 1973 astroglass fiberglass but is more like a jon boat with a console and an open design so it is relatively light. so you think the pitch is 4"? what are the other numbers cause I cant seem to cross reference them with anything. it is an Aluminum prop 3 blade and I assume it is factory

Re: mercury prop question

No not a 4" I was capitalizing and turned the 1 into an exclamation point! .lol.
Its all just educated guess and looking up the motor on the prop store page.
a 14 is one or 2 steps toward higher pitch.
Cup likely refers to the blades having cup added giving it a better grip on the water.(if you read the stickies on the top of the page prop mystery will be a little more clear.Forgot to mention the chart on the prop store page only goes to 74. Again I can only guess there is some sort of hub difference. Some one may be along with more merc knowledge.
