Hello,
I just picked up a Mercury Virage prop. It looks like it might have been recently cleaned up by a prop shop. It is marked 19P. But right above the 19P is another small stamp marked 17. This 17 stamp looks like it was done outside of the factory. Does this mean that a shop has changed the pitch? Thank your for the help.

Ayuh,... It's entirely possible, although My local Prop Shop won't attemp any more than a 1" repitch....

It is possible that the stamp is the new pitch. A prop shop can usually go as far as 2 pitches. A lot of prop shops will also stamp their job number into the prop, so that if you ever damage the prop and need to have it reworked again they will know what they did to it last. Although, a simple 17 seems short to be a job #.
