Re: mercury prop

All I can tell you is that I have a Mercury prop. that fits fine on my Alpha I Mercruiser. I keep it as my spare. Or basically I have 3 motors, a 1971 65hp Merc, a 2000 Merc Optimax outboard, a 1986 Alpha I stern drive and they all have the exact same prop. shaft as far as the prop. end of the shaft goes

Re: mercury prop

The Michigan Wheel website has a helpful list of all the OEM Mercury prop numbers and what is interchangeable with both Mich Wheel and Ballistic. I used it to cross a Merc Laser 2, which has a smaller diameter---but what I really need is 22 pitch so it looks like a rebuild is in order.

I got the Laser for $150 on ebay, so even if I put another $150 in it for a pitch change, still not up to the cost of a new one.

Shop around---there are deals out there but you need to know what the stamped number is on the prop and if it will interchange with others.

Re: mercury prop

Thanks Bondo, yeah, I shouldn't have said I keep it for a spare. I just keep it to get home on. I like it because it's very small and pack's easy vs. the huge prop. my engine has on it. But basically never use it as I'd have to really destroy my normal prop. to not just limp home on it. Then I have a normal spare at home too. The one from the small outboard is way too tiny and you always want to use the correctly matched prop. to your motor or you can damage many things.

Re: mercury prop

Well, I guess I'll find out when the prop gets here. I don't have any local marine stores to try before I buy, so I wanted to buy something cheap off e-bay to make sure. I have a 21 pitch mercury prop coming that was on a large outboard. They didn't list the diameter, but did list the part number. I've searched the net, but can't find a list of props by part number.
