Hello all, I'm new to this forum and could use some general information regarding the Merc Sea pro outboards. I just purchased a 1995 40hp merc sea pro w/ tiller controls; the engine runs well and I have no complaints. I can't seem to find American info regarding this motor( or the Sea pro line for that matter). I did go to Mercury's international site, pulled some specs and was able to glean some insight into the line. It appears this is a utilitarian line marketed more to commercial industry. When I saw pictures on the international site's my 1995 model looks identicle to the 2007 offerings.
Here are a few questions I have: When did Mercury officially quit offering the Sea Pro line in the US? Was it dropped simply because they are 2 stroke engines and wouldn't meet EPA regs? Are there any significant differences between my model(1995) and the 2007 offerings? These 2 strokes appear to be a little beefier than the standard 2 str offerings; other than stainless shafts; heavier housings; and no tiller handle twist fwd & rvse are there any big performance differences?
Please don't be shy, I am truly curious about this motor. Any and all info, tidbits and insight will be appreciated. BTW, I have ordered a owners manual from my local dealer; It'll be a week or so before it arrives. Thanks for letting me post.
