I am getting my 1985 Glastron with a 100hp mercury ready for the next season and would like to service the lower unit.

This is a picture of the side, which one of these bolts do I remove to drain the lower unit? Once drained how much oil and what type should I use to replace the old?

Re: Mercury Service Question

Neither of those are the "drain plugs". Those are the vent plugs. The drain plug is at the bottom of the lower unit.

Re: Mercury Service Question

Don't touch the small screw, as it is holding the shift shaft bushing in place.

The large screw is the vent.

You'll find the drain screw below the gearcase, near the front of the bullet.

Have a peek here for the typical procedure:

Hope that helps.

Thank You.
