When I rebuilt my Checkmate I set it up for a Johnson engine, installing all new control cables etc. I now have to find another engine for it and am looking at a late 80's Mercury 200. Since I used a Hot Foot and a side mount billet shifter I may need to make some modifications, hence I have a few questions about rigging:
1. What direction does the Mercury shift cable move for forward (for the Johnson the cable moves forward to select forward gear)?
2. Can anyone give me the spec for shift cable throw from neutral to forward and neutral to reverse for the Merc?
3. Am I going to luck out and be able to use the same cables? (I know, I'm being greedy expecting to get that lucky). Can someone supply a link showing photos of the Merc cable ends?
