mercury starting problems

M y 1998 mercury50hp 4 stroke starts fine cold,like when first launching or say stopping to fish for awhile it will start right up,but stop to take dip for a few minutes or stop at the marinea its hard starting,don't want to fire or starts and dies immediatly,have to throw it in gear fast,whats up ? thank in advance

Check you don't have a flooding problem.

if you think he has a flooding problem what would be the fix and how can you tell. i have a similar problem, except mine starts hard from the get go and it certainly has plenty of fuel

Disconnecting the fuel line a short time before you stop and see if it starts back after your break before you reconnect the fuel line.
