Re: MERCURY SWITCH

Mercury switch is not really needed, it just kills motor if you tilt it up to far which pulls the water intakes dry. Save money, disconnect and keep the lower unit in the water when running.

Re: MERCURY SWITCH

throw it away! no need. unless you have a habit of accidently starting your motor when its fully tilted in the " up " position. all its gonna do is die one day , and youll pull your hair out trying to figure why your motor has no spark... ...before you check the stupid blue mercury switch

Re: MERCURY SWITCH

the mercuy switch also shuts the motor down if you hit something and kick the motor out of the water. I would carefully test it and replace it. I try not to reengineer the motors I just fix them.I think I have only seen one that was actually bad in almost 30 years of practicing :)

Mercury mercury switch number is 58124a7,$40 bucks
But I don't thnk it will solve your problem.I've never seen one bad,and it is designed to ground the ignition and shut off the engine.
Has the position of the switch changed,so it keeps you from having spark?
DHP
