Mercury throttle control seems slip

Just purchased a 1998 ranger with a mercury 115 hp<br />outboard. When "on plane" I take my hand off the throttle the boat slows down as though the throttle is slipping. I put my hand back on throttle and give a little gas it picks up and runs fine. I wonder it this is some sort of safety feature or am I having a problem with the throttle. control. Any thoughts as to what is causing this?

rangerb: There should be a thumb screw to adjust for friction control. Look over your control box.<br />Either just under the key or at forward end of control box.<br /><br />

rangerb,<br />I don't know what type of control you have but there is a tension screw on them that can be tightened up to take care of your problem. If your control is real easy to operate with little or no resistance, I'd say it just needs tightening.<br />JD

Thanks for the input. After posting this question<br />I decided to go read the operation manaul for the<br />control. It clearly stated that there was an adjustment screw to set the tension. Da.<br />Anyway thanks again.
