mercury tilt/trim problem

hi guys,
got a 87 merc 150 the tilt/trim stopped working. The motor is humming but no movement up or down. It has enough fluid and nothing milky in it. Any idea what it might be or where to start trouble shooting.thanks

Could be any number of things. Pump and manifold. Pilot valve. Manual release valve. Probably not the piston assembly if your engine won't trim at all. Somewhere an o-ring, seal or seat isn't holding pressure. The factory manual will have diagrams that tell you where to look for hydraulic troubles.
