I have a new-to-me 2007 Mercury 90hp 4 Stroke efi and I'm reading in the manual that I should trailer it in the upright position and use a support if I have to trim it up to clear the ground. Well I do.

Is there a motor specific support that I can buy to support the motor while trailering?

I know the transom saver discussion has passionate opinions on both sides but if I was going to follow the manual, what would I use?

I use one. Their not engine specific, just get the one you like or can find. They all work pretty much the same.

Re: Mercury Trailering Support

I think the term trailering may be a little ambiguous. There is trailering (pulling your boat behind your vehicle while driving) and trailering (parking your boat on your property on a trailer).
In the first case, you would never want to keep the motor in an upright position as you would probably damage the skeg at some point. I use a transom savor when towing just to keep stress off of the transom.
In the second case, you can remove the transom savor and trim the engine down. The reason for this is that when it rain, water will build up in the exhaust channel in the lower unit and when a good freeze occurs, your lower unit will be damaged.

Hope that helps.
