Hi guys,

I would like to know what will be a comparable SS prop for the Mercury Vengeance, Solas ? Turning Point ? else ? I mean that it will give the same result in term of max RPM / speed - same cruising speed, in other words that will give the same or more efficient than the Mercury Vengeance.

I am asking because here I could get another brand like Solas or Turning Point or MW at about $200. cheaper than the Merc prop.

Thanks !

I can't help you with the other brands but will tell you that the Vengeance is the most basic SS prop Merc offers. It doesn't provide any real gains over a comparable aluminum prop other than durability. I understand the want to save a few bucks by going to the other makers. What are you looking to achieve? What application? What boat/engine/use?

If your read " how to get the best results"and "read this first" at the top of the page it will help you get more help with fewer follow up questions.

Re: Mercury Vengeance comparable

Well sorry guys, here is more inputs, first to achieve the sweet spot of my engine a Mercury 115 - 4strokes - 2007 - I need a prop of 16'' pitch in order to make it run around 6200-6300-RPM
and there is no 16P in alu except for the Mercury BlackMax but it costs 215.$ - so since the 16P is available in most of the SS prop this is why I am asking if any other prop than Mercury Vengeance would have the same results. Now I have a BlackMax alu of 17P and my engine runs at 6000-6100-RPM - 40-MPH - but it is easy to ventilate and get chewed very easy in sand and stones from beaching or power load onto the trailer.

With that engine I know it is not worthed to spend too much money in high performance SS prop so this why I am looking to buy a base SS prop.

We still need to know what you are pushing. My rough figures indicate over 15% slip.
Thats high unless you are pushing a real brute.
A ss should help lower slip but in the process lower rpm.It becomes difficult for me to predict
where a 16 ss will end up.

Re: Mercury Vengeance comparable

Thanks Steelespike,

You are right about the slip - at WOT I am doing 6000 - 6100-RPM and between 40 and 41-mph - so slip is around 13 to 15%, this is with 2 peoples and usual fishing gear and 30-gallons of gas.

Boat: Princecraft Pro 176 - 17.5-feet - 1400-lbs - aluminum - bottom 80 inches - transom 25 inches
Engine: Mercury - 115-hp 4 stroke - 400-lbs - max RPM - 5800-6400 - engine anti-cavitation plate is set at 1/4 inche above bottom
Actual prop: aluminum Mercury - BlackMax 13.25 X 17P - 3 blades

I would like to reach 6300-RPM - this is why I think a 16P should put me in the range, the actual prop is or should say was making 4000-RPM and 28.5-mph = slip 8% - 3800-RPM and 27-mph = slip 10% - I am looking for a SS prop that will keep those figures.
