Re: Mercury vs Evinrude????

My dad started out in the late 50's with a bench built 30hp Merc and raced it on the Great Miami river when I was a kid. My last on is a 2004 150 efi,Need I say more.

Re: Mercury vs Evinrude????

Honestly, all I have ever ran (With one ezception) was Mercury. Started with a '67 650, pulling 2 adults on single skis. Then a '69 1250, ran that one till it sucked a reed valve in 94. Then a '79 115 and 140. Now a '84 90 Mariner.

The one exception was the Coast Guard Morale boat that was a 19' Grady White with a 150 Evenrude. From the way it ran, I think the old 1250 would have pushed that boat faster.

I have towed in ALL other outboard makes, only 2 Mercs since 1967.

This is not a question that can simply be answered as one or the other if theres any knowledge at all involved.First though, are you talking new motors or any/all type of thing?Mercs,in my opinion, are superior(as a whole).Although, there are some mercs you could not pay me to own as well as some johnnyrudes i wouldnt own as well as other brands. It varies due to year, sizes, models, etc.Faztbullet summed up pretty well. You just cant say one or the other.Too many factors.

Well if you are talking about motors for the future, I would pick the ETEC, it is not going to be long before we see catalytic converters in outboards. ETEC claims their emissions will not have catalytic converters. And the baddest motor on the water right now is the Yahama Vmax series SHO!

One is white.
One is black.
One is better than the other.
